Unfortunately, the small white pulse oximeter developed an issue with the display where the display would fade after two to three years of use. There was no way of knowing this until it happened and the manufacturer was not that helpful or forthcoming with information about this issue. After half a dozen emails, a faulty unit was sent back and after a long time the manufacture replied that this was normal and did Vetsens want to buy more stock to replace the old stock!! Electronic equipment is usually rated for ten years of continuous use and while failures do and will occur, generally electronics should last much longer.

The fix was to supply a new pulse oximeter and give existing customers a rebate on upgrade. Since the new pulse oximeter had to be purchased at a much higher price and the Australian customs and duties dept took their slice, the maximum rebate that could reasonably be offered was a 25% discount, Not all vets took up this offer but most did - some without even any complaining. Most vets did complain and we fully understand this annoying inconvenience and extra cost.

On the bright side, the new pulse oximeter is doing extremely well. There was one return but no fault was found and the unit was returned under the no-cost warranty agreement.

Also, the multi-parameter monitor is doing well with a handful of vets now using this unit. The ETCO2 option is expensive but is around half the price of a comparable unit. Please email us at info@vetsens.com for a pricelist.ESDhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06713364351604792338noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7870612132335994532.post-34357550031813633962012-01-11T13:09:00.001+11:002012-01-11T13:09:53.740+11:00An overview of the VETSENS-P02 pulse oximeter
Here is a video of the VETSENS-P02 veterinary pulse oximeter which has been a huge success for us. We have had a few repairs but they are all either broken cables probably caused by an animal biting or yanking the cable, or else connector issues. This video shows the remote SpO2 assistant program which can be installed from the mini CD and connected to the VETSENS-P02 using the small mini USB cable.ESDhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06713364351604792338noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7870612132335994532.post-41312977358224783192011-11-14T20:30:00.002+11:002011-11-15T08:38:49.759+11:00VETSENS-MP1

Here is a video of the new VETSENS-MP1 monitor in action, This monitor has ECG, SpO2, NIBP, Respiration and two channels of temperature. Typical monitors like this cost around 3, 4 or 5 thousand dollars. The advantages of the VETSENS-MP1 monitor are:

The size. This monitor is around half the size of a normal monitor and has been specially designed for use in veterinary surgeries.

The durable case with a carry handle. The VETSENS-MP1 has an inbuilt lithium-ion battery, so can be used on site at farms, wild-life sanctuaries or anywhere.

The features. This monitor is full programmable, and has supports four parameters, There is an optional sidestream Co2 module available.

The display. Most of the front panel is display, and the display is a very bright colour screen. At Vetsens, we only source the best vet equipment, and believe us, this is the best.

Support. Vetsens is the number one veterinary company in terms of service and support. We will always honour warranty and will work with customers to solve problems.

Extra peripherals. The VETSENS-MP1 also has a rear USB port and an ethernet jack for network connectivity.

The new Multi Parameter Monitor has turned up and it looks great. It has ECG, NIBP, SpO2 and two temperature sensors. There is also a CO2 option which isn't included this time due to the extra cost. The screen is very large while the device is quite small. Many companies sell Medical Multi Parameter monitors to vet clinics, but these monitors are not really suited to a vet environment. This monitor has been specially designed for veterinary use - note the top left heading shows CAT. The patient can be set to CAT, DOG or HORSE. This monitor also has a ethernet and USB port so it can be connected up to the network, and viewed through a web browser. Anyway, we have asked five vets to test out the monitor and all of them said yes. Some more VETSENS-P04 pulse oximeters have arrived, and we noticed these pulse oximeters have excellent pickup. The VETSENS-P04 comes with two probes - one probe with a long clip for larger animals and another probe with a short clip for smaller animals. The smaller clip (with sleeves removed) can pick up a pulse rate easily on an ear lobe so it should work well on small animals.

Some other features are:
- Trend logging
- auto power off
- optional remote program with USB cable
- metal stand
- rubber side grips
- durable tactile buttons
- an overall professional finish
- two ranges of pulse rate 25-200 & 120-410bpm.
- PI (perfusion index) which indicates the strength of a pulse signal

The VETSENS-P04 is around twice the price of a VETSENS-P02 but with the all extra features, it is excellent value.ESDhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06713364351604792338noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7870612132335994532.post-73042777016365420902011-06-10T13:09:00.002+10:002011-06-10T13:14:17.181+10:00Easybeat Temperature Meter ExplainedThe Easybeat veterinary monitor performs seven functions. One of these functions is a temperature meter which is displayed regularly in the middle display. The temperature sensor used is a standard YSI400 medical temperature sensor used in most multi-parameter monitors. The temperature is displayed accurate to 0.1 degree C from 32.0C to 42.0C. To calibrate the temperature, a temperature calibrator or calibration plugs are needed. Press and hold the far left SET switch on power up. Note that the 5.7 displayed on startup is the current firmware version, and v5.7 is the latest version.

The display will show 32C= 609 (or a similar number). Select the 32C plug or set the temperature calibrator to 32C, and press the SET button to save the 32C calibration. The display will then show 42C= 114 (or a similar number). Press the SET Button again to save the 42C calibration.
The unit runs from 4 AA batteries and also has a plug to power it from a 6V DC plugpack which has not yet been tested.ESDhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/06713364351604792338noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7870612132335994532.post-57999723897478337192011-04-28T16:16:00.001+10:002011-05-27T11:20:28.703+10:00EbayVetsens has some refurbished used medical equipment up for sale over the next few weeks. The problems with measuring pulse and oxygen saturation on animals is that the measuring sites such as ears and tongues are much smaller and covered with fur. Below are some basic requirements to help get a good pulse reading.

Basic Requirements for Successful Use of Pulse Oximetry on Animals

The monitoring site must have a good peripheral pulse.

The sensor should be securely attached, but should not inhibit perfusion.

The monitoring site should be protected from excessive motion.

Fur should be removed when necessary and highly pigmented areas avoided

The sensor should be protected from extraneous light. Operation in direct sunlight is to be be avoided, or else the measuring site should be covered to prevent interference.

The previous website is still available here. A new accessory has been added - the Vetsens-A06- an Eneloop charger complete with two Eneloop batteries. Eneloop batteries are made by Sanyo and are Nickel Metal Hydride batteries with low self-discharge. This means the batteries will not run out when not being used, and may last months before needing to be recharged. The batteries are 2000mAHr which may seem fairly ordinary, but most rechargeable battery capacities are exaggerated and some rechargeable batteries will only last several cycles such as the cheap Powercell types. Eneloop batteries are top quality, and will last for a long time if looked after. This charger is also available at Dick Smiths, but the Vetsens price is substantially cheaper.
